WD Engine Upgrade

I've got a WD45 with a WD engine and want to upgrade to the 55 - 60 hp range similar to the Allis 175 for use as a puller (low gear only required where we pull) and for mowing grass, ie misc utility work.

What are the better piston options? Who makes a good piston and sleeve kit which ups the compression and power but will not require high octane fuel?

What should I do with the camshaft?

It currently has a magneto ignition. What is one of the better ignition setups?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

that tractor with in low gear will have more hp stock than you will need, any more and you will just spin out and spend a lot of money for nothing.

What Mark said is very true except that if you gonna be pulling up into the heavy weight classes that extra h.p. will come in handy. I used the 175 Allis piston, and those you have to get from an Agco dealer. They do have the aftermaket pistons, like Tisco's but they are'nt the same, a true 175 piston is 1/4" taller than original giving you about 180-190 lbs. of compression. Also I would'nt recommend having a cam done, I myself don't do any brushhogging with mine but I don't think it would hold up. Oh and one more thing a 4 1/2" crank will be needed. That combo should get you plenty. I myself if your just pulling 1st gear would get a set of 14" rims and 14.9 firestones and I will promise you you'll be a contender. If you have any other questions email me. Kurt
