I agree with A-puller. It is alot easier to get up to speed on a 300 ft track using a slam sled (like the ATPA NTPA use) that lets you get rolling then puts the hurts to you at 50 ft from the end of the track. Indoors we pull on antique tractor sleds that are set real heavy in div 4&5 and are tough to get going, especially if you don't have enough front end ballast which is the case for 1/2 of the div 5 tractors that are pulling with bigger tractors in lighter classes. There is no way a 460 with any motor on 18.4's can get up to 15mph on a 200ft track pulling on antique tractor sleds with operators that have been warned about a 15+ mph 460, and shift the sled up a few more gears. I too was wondering when this "vote" on the speed limit was suppose to be done. Is there going to be a meeting for all the div 4&5 pullers where they can vote by secret ballot on what speed limit, if any, they want in their division? I was not planning on going to columbia, and haven't gone to the Nov columbia pull ever. I don't think I should HAVE to go to a pull just to tell the NATPA to keep the speed limits where they already are (in div 1-3). The real question is... Why do we need to vote on a speed limit for classes that have the rules frozen? The 460 in question is within the "grey area of the rules". He is using a 360 diesel block that is within 1/16" of an inch of being legal and he is using crossflow IH V-8 gas heads that were cut and rewelded to make two 3 cyl heads. Since the board likes to make up rules for classes that have the rules frozen (remember the seat belts, wide front ends, ladder bars) then why didn't they just take care of this "grey area" and make up a rule: no cut apart and rewelded or "made up" heads. There is a Farmall 460, Farmall H, Farmall M, & a Ford that have these "made up" heads. Something should be done to stop these heads because I guarantee there will be alot more of these heads showing up before long, and they will be coming from more places than rushville, IN.
