Does anyone out there know if you can use the 450 gas or LP head with fire crator pistons in an M?? Thanks in advance. LM

My personal experience, had firecrater pistons with gas head, put on a 450 lp head, after my second pull the valve seat broke and crushed the piston. Why did this happen? I had been hearing a tapping sound and thought I had a bad lifter, after my motor broke we discovered the pistons were hitting the valves. I have since put in the M&W "add power" pistons and it runs great. They are about an 1/8" shorter than the Ih pistons, so I have clearence and good power. 245psi.

450 gas head with fire crator pistons will give approx. 150-160 psi and the L.P. head will give approx. 230 psi, both heads will work.

yes you can use an lp head with fire crater pistons. i have two tractors with m & w pistons and propane heads. there is plenty of room. compression makes power. the more the merrier.

With the lp head and fire crater pistons what is the compression ratio? Would it be over 10-1, and do you have to run different fuel?

NO,the domes are to high,you should use flat tops,the other thing to remember is ,RACE gas is for higher RPM motors,race fules are formulated for this,you need to find fuel that works well in the lower RPM range.I like about 9 or 10 to 1 comp.remember your motor works in the LOWER RPM range.OPENS up a hole new set of questions,don't it.

I would like an explaination as to why you wouldn't want a fast flame front in high and low rpms as well. Am i missing something.

You can have a well packed cyl in low rpms with the right set up and you can set up a motor to flow just right at high rpms. You want 14 to 1 or there abouts mix ration in both situations. I am stumped when it comes to the rpm differance in reguards to fuel mixtures. Where can I read up on this topic.

I like 12 or 13 to 1 putting out above 230 psi my self.

You guys call your selfs tractor pullers? did eny of you so called experts study up on the gas your paying $3 to $4 or more a gallon for to see if it fits your engine needs I sell alot of fuel to pro. pullers and reading what you guys are saying sure makes me laugh so keep your dollars comming in and the laughs to hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

there are also 2 different types of the original international fire crater pistons; regular 5000 feet elevation and 8000 high altitude. the 8000's will work w/the 8060 head, but i'm not sure about the lp head

Hey Farmhaul,

I recommend mixing a little pancake syrup in with that race fuel for those low rpm motors. May not make any more horsepower, but it'll smell good enough to eat when you put the hammer down.

There are some fuel companies like Pro Fuels, Sunoco, VP Fuels that make a fuel that will work for high compression, low speed engines. Call their tech people to get an expert's opinion.
