I have a 1946 A That is running close to 50 horse power. The block gasket was leaking so I put a new one in. With the increase in power and compresion should the torque be raised to compensate? What should the torque be? Should I use loctight on the threads? I noticed when it is at full load it really stresses out this gasket on the block. I am using grade 8 bolts with thick flat washers for more block surface. It seems there is a slight bit of movment there when at full load with the bolts tight, my block has the single bolt on top. Can this movment be prevented or is this somthing I have to live with with a modified engine?

As always...Thank you!!

You might want to increase the torque to about 150 ft. lb. on the head bolts. Start @ the center and work your way around in increments of 10 ft. lbs. What I usually do is use high temp silicon on the threads in place of the lead washers, this also lubricates the threads for proper torque. Also try to find a metal head gasket in place of the composite type. I ran a larger A with about 10.5:1 for years this way.

Huh... just re-read your post and you were refering to the block gasket. Yes, I had trouble with mine wanting to travel also. The last time I put it back together I used, of course, a new block-gasket with ultra black on both sides, using the stock bolts and tightened them as tight as I possibly could, no torque values here. It seemed to hold well, until other things decided to fail.
