How low can you get a 4020 with no hydraulics,no 3 point, with and with out fenders, with about 5 gallons of fuel, and on pressed steel with or without a roll a matic? What kind of hp can you achieve with just the injection pump turned up? How hard would it be to put a 4430 motor in one so you can have the suitcase pump? How do you turn the R's up on one? Any suggestions how to make a 4020 a good farm stock tractor?(we do not have a speed limit) the tractors can be turned up as much as you want they just cant have a p-pump. I am graduating from the 2 cylinders and don't know much about 4020's.

If you want to really strip it, you can get it to the 6000# neighborhood. My 4010 weighs 6420 with me on it(185#s), and I could probably get another 6-700 lbs off it pretty easily. Have seen 4010-20's as low as 5500#s, but that gets really expensive. I think the rear end housing on a 4020 is a little heavier, but most of the rest of it is identical. If it's legal to run in your class, you can slip a 55 series 6076 (466 cu in) engine in it with little problem. Bell housing doesn't exactly match up, but there is enough there to hold it sufficiently. With the 55 series, you get much better air flow in the head as long as the manifolds are matched up correctly.

Email me if you have any more questions, I'll be glad to help.

scott looked at a 4010 that came out of the south with big stars painted on it , i guess the last time it pulled was at louisvile 81 or 82 hollow axels , aluminun frame ,sheetmetel ,dash ,fenders 2 ply pullers on aluminun, all the brakeparts and flywheel are aluminun. twin charger dsl, hit the scales at 4550 i guess it used to pull 5000 lb , just wondering whos it was , its in ky now

PCY, the 4010 u are talking about was owned by Ed Cleek of Limestone,Tn; Ted Silvers drove and wrenched on it and painted the thing weekly (he was a master with an air gun) the last tape I have is 1985 Louisville 5500 class it was on three turbos at that point. Ed sold the tractor to Billy Martin in Anderson SC; he took it to Ky to have a motor put in and the man has been a little slow (mho). Billy plans to pull it in a lt pro stock I think who really knows at this pt. Oh yeah I know this since Ed was my cousin and I had the brother tractor. I also have a 4010 that is in pieces that would be good to make into a puller. One other thought on the original matter 6000 is very doable and I would hunt a 4455 motor if I were going to do a transplant. Get the 466 and the better head. Best of luck,

thats the tractor the silvers name rings a bell he came and got the 2 ply pullers off it, brought a turbo that if it had 2 motors in it it couldent turn , i think jamey told me they put a 585 cube motor in it, the turbo is a 93 air research with a 4.5 air wheel with a 150 exhaust hsng, i told him it mite work on top of a 2 stage , but silvers is telling them it will work by itself , it also has a 18% over road gear low gear,

I would think you should definitely be in the 6500# class, if not the 6000. I had aluminum frame rails for mine and I was in the 5500#. What are the rules for your class. If there is no rpm or speed limit, I would bet on a 4010 gas over diesel (non turbo of course) I have a gas engine for sale, it is big cubic inch built by Riverside engines. E mail me, I can definitely help you get her light

Good Luck,

Brad Gray
