Wheelie bar rule question ????

I have a JD G ,The wheelie bar rule says do not attach to drawbar in any way.
My question is do they allow you to connect to the angle iron frame around the drawbar or do you have to stay away from that also? I want to build set that I can take anywhere even to a National pull.

Do you have to rig off the axles? Anyone have pictures of a set up for a 2cyl A or G?

Thanks, al

AL: They don't seem to pick at you to much about the wheelie bars at the NY (NATPA)pulls the only pull we have been to were they really inspect the tractor is Junius Ponds Championship pull.I would say that if you're current bars are safe to support the weight of the tractor they won't complain too much, most of the guys at the pulls are decent and will let you slide once or twice until you get new bars on,feel free to E mail. Hello Al haven't chatted with you in awhile,I just had to redo my wheelie bars got put on notice change or no pull. My wheelie bars are 2 x 3 tubing with five inch square touch pads,I had to make a plate on front of axle and and cut tubing where it would clear brake drum then went sraight down to the tubing that runs parrall with hitch frame and it ties in to the tubiing going down to the pad and also ties on to the back of the axle makes a real stout set up. I'm haveing fuel tank problems I think the racing fuel is reacting with the tank liner I put in to seal tank got any ideas along this line. I need a good tank without the liner . Gman

Garland,
I have the stock tank in mine and have been running racing gas for years. My tank is a mangled welded mess on the bottom but I have never had any problems. I read where alchy fuels attack tanks??? What gear can you run in 5500 with 18-4's?

Not really that new but my question was will they allow you to attach to the angle Iron frame around the drawbar or do you have to go to the axles.

Al if you read most of the rules closely, they just suggest that you not hook the bars to the hitch frame.. I have some pics of some that are not hooked to the hitch frame.. I'll see if I can find them. I have mine hooked to the hitch frame, its easy and looks clean. Good luck..

Hey Al. I am thinking most national rules say not to attach your bars to the drawbar. The ones on my 60 are fastened to the axle housing and are braced two ways- one from the bar up to the mounting, and the other from the bar to the drawbar frame. I have been to a few national pulls and they never fussed about my set-up. It is pretty strong and will hold up the tractor just fine. Holler if you want any more particulars. Mike

Mike,
I have a cheasy set that nobody ever bothers. My G is at 5500 with no weight and i am trying to keep the bars as light as possible.I was thinking nobody bothers you if they are mounted to the frame on a deere. Maybe my rims and 18-4's are to heavy as I have one of those alum rear covers.I don't want to travel a great distance and be turned away because of my tip bars.

Al what else have you removed.. I also have the 18.4 pressed wheels, with the al rear covers, and I have removed the air cleaner stuff.. but with the wheelie bars and front weight bracket I am just over 5600 with my but in the seat... I would like to get under the 5500... Also have a lighter gear reduction starter.. Thanks

Bryan,
About the same as you but usually remove my frt nose bracket to make 5500. When I go to some Fairs that specify 15-5 max. I weigh 5300 with the brackets on.My rims are 18 w from a lg AC tractor. I go 225lbs. Then there are G's with the hyd cover on with the box and rockshafts removed that make 55 w 18-4's too.Must be your rims and tires.

Al and Garland, my G has heavy 16" pressed steel wheels on the back (about 180 lbs. a piece) with 16.9-38s on them, aluminum rear cover, hubs welded on, lighter starter, and no roll-o-matic and I have 390 lbs. of moveable weight in 5500. Last year when I had my lighter 14" rims on I had 490 lbs. of weight to move in 5500. My wheely bars are square tubing with a pad welded on the end, and there is square tubing welded to my drawbar platform that the bars slide up in. This tractor has been to NATPA pulls before and as far as I know they didn't have any beef with the wheely bars.
