A fortune eh? Try less $$$$. We started an antique class with turbo to decrease the cost of pulling. With pretty basic rules I don't foresee it getting out of hand with regards to cost or H.P. A couple of cost reasons are as follows: Turbo ~ $500.00 (size limitation rule) versus a stroked, bored and flowed engine for an antique class III that will run a minimum of $2500 to upwards of $10000. Guys spend about $2500 just for a MM HD motor (Div V). Try getting a L Case crankshaft to put out 1000 cubes for less than a grand or two - pending the starting point. If the cubic inches are limited to not much more than an overbore of stock (ie. no long strokers here) and RPM's are limited (ie. safety reasons) I don't think you'll be spending a lot of money to pull in this class. It's not the wheel spinning, wheel standing black smoke class of the NTPA. Exciting - maybe not to some, but it can be fun and different for those that don't want to spend a lot of money and have something different. You have a point that if not done right people will find ways to spend money. But then again, people I know have spent as much money just on a "stock" motor, just to compete in Div II. Just an opinion of one.
