Our Pulling club recently went to a 18" drawbar and smaller tires to try and even out the competition. I have a 38 "G" with 14.9 x 38 Firestones and the 18" drawbar. Was pulling with 20" drawbar and 16.9 X 38 Stones. Its unreal the difference that is made with this change. Haven't figured out this combo yet. Also we run 11' from center of rear axle, Front wieght brackets. Is the trick to have the front wieghted heavy to keep the drawbar as high as long as possible or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mike

Guys,
Thanks for the input. But I think I misled you. I run an 18" length drawbar all the time. But its the highth of the drawbar that they lowered from 20" High down to 18" I've tried what used to work very good for me on the tall drawbar doesn't seem to work the same. I've noticed some people putting more wieght up front then we used too!
Thanks Guys

On my Moline, I run less front weight with the 18" hitch than with the 20" hitch. The lower hitch seems to help out the lower powered tractors. I know the Moline doesn't get near the bite with the 18" hitch, and spins out quicker than normal.

Trade ya a few dozen projectiles for Ethan for a good set of 14.9 F&Rs :-)

there is no trick about it. try to keep the front end light but not coming off the ground. just like you did with the 20 inch drawbar. only now with the smaller tires and less bite you should be able to increase your ground speed accordingly. and contrary to popular belief a longer drawbar wont increase leverage to the rearend only make you spin out quicker. Ive tried it on my own sled and it doesnt work. that is why you are limited on how short a drawbar yuo can run not how long of a drawbar you could have. otherwise guys would have a ten foot drawbar and run down the track with all the weight up front

A longer drawbar will increase leverage, the only time
this would not be true is if the chain on the sled
were hooked as high or higher than it was on the tractor. The lower the chained is hooked on the sled
the more leverage until the front starts to come up.

Keep the drawbar short to limit bending & height drop. If limited by weight movement, lengthen the drawbar for more leverage to transfer weight from the front if required.
