Marshall these guys are right on with the Oliver swap. Since the trans. isn't married to the engine, no adapter plate necessary. Just power transmission conversion. My neighbor made this swap in that he put the chevy into a OC3 or 4 dozer and also left the 4 speed trans. on the chev. engine. Looked good but not to practical.
Good luck Lew

I don't understand why people screw up tractors and put them in tractor shows.

A Oliver with the cast irom frame and a simple chain coupler is the best and quickest.

I have pulled on or seen car motors in these tractors: Cockshutt 30,40,50, Massey 30,44 , Farmall f-20 , Oliver 60,77,88 . These motors were
Chevy 250 V-6 , Chevy 350 V-8 , Ford 360&390 V-8"s
and Ford V-6. What one is easiest,In my opion it is the massy 44.

An old Oliver 1850 would be an easy swap. These old tractors have a double roller chain coupler between the engine and transmission. Adapting the chain sprocket to the crankshaft would probably be easier than having to adapt to the transmission bell housing on other tractors. These tractors also have enough transmission to stand the horsepower. Good luck in your swap.
