I just said it. I found a block, but I am afraid to buy it because it has no sleeves or pistons. Does anyone know what this may end up costing me? thanks, AC Oh yeah, poll here: What kind of HP should a late A with a powerblock, stock stroke, big nut carb, and a johnson cold manifold make?

I have a 47 JD-A with powerblock Hinnrich aluminum high compression pistons .125 over ($450 about 4 years ago) head shaved .120 intake and head ported and baffle removed from cold manifold, and oil bath removed. It dyno's at 55hp.

Piston will run you 700 plus from Hinrich and you will probably be put on a waiting list.

I have no idea, I can get a decent deal on a powerblock, but I don't want to have to wrap up $1000 extra in sleeves and pistons. All I want to do is get into the 45 hp area so I can do hay with my 51 A. I know there are little tricks here and there like running 720? valves and things like that, but I have limited knowledge of that stuff because I am new to "building up" these 2 cylinders. Any hints or helps would be appreciated. That does it cost to have a port and polish job done? how about a heisler head? what do I have to do to the bottom end of my engine if I want to really make her crank? thanks...AC

A set or 60 high altitude or LP pistons, oversize intake valves, blend the maching/casting smooth in the valve bowls, a cam by Roberts Carbs, a gas manifold, K&N aircleaner. Should make equivalne to a stock 60 gas or a little better. Could just trade to a 620/630 and get live pto, live hydraulics, three point hitch, optional PS and more power stock than an extra $2500 into an "A" will get.
