I was wondering if putting a gas 300 head on a H with overbore dome pistons would help on power?

I had a Farmall H with a 350 propane head and IH
"Fire Power" pistons. It put out 38 horse at 540 PTO rpm.

Yes it will help your power some. You should have a 300 head shaved about .125" to .175" to raise the
compression alittle more and run gas with a 100+ octane rating. This should give you around 32-35 HP.
Just the 300 head, unshaved, might get you 30 HP.

If you plane .125 off a 300 head your head gasket might not seal up. When you plane it that far the water holes get pretty big.

A fellow puller I know shaved .250 off of his H head. After breaking it in for a couple of days on the dyno he warmed her up and loaded her down to see what it had. After a few minutes she started smoking like a alky burning super stock. The head broke into the water passage but the gasket looked good. This time .250 is too far.

I had .125" taken off my 300 head and it's held
fine with a stock H gasket for 4 years so far.
But yes the water holes got alittle bigger.
