ive got a 560 gas, and id like to be competitive in the stock class. it has 15.5 38's, the good year dyna torques. i took off the fast hitch and wfe for less weight. added a coil hotter plugs 103 octane gas, and i was wondering what else i could do to tweak this motor out. ill be pulling against the family whos strickly allis fans, and i want to give them some competition. all advice is greatly appreciated.

Unless you are upping the compression of the engine the high octane won't help much, just costs more. You can jet out the carborator to get more fuel flow also check you manifold and head. You can open these up to inprove flow also. getting the fuel in and the exhaust out is the name of the game.

Get a v-8 head setup, no-one will notice (especially if you plan on pulling with the NATPA)!

Now that the jokes are done, why don't you look for a 301 motor from a 806, 826 or 856 and put that in. You could also send the cam out to be reground with a better profile or have a new cam ground for it. Try doing a little porting on the head and governor tweaking.

As long as your 560 runs it will beat any Allis around!! haha!
Goldsburg gave some good pointers. I would definitely do away with the 103 octane.
Get those electronic ignition and do away with the points you won't regret it.
Also see if you can do some governor work(stiffer springs, etc.) Im not real sure how the 560 governors are set up,but on a Farmall M doing this will make a big difference! Good Luck!

Good friend of mine has a 560 he put 16.9 38's super all traction field and roads on it. The motor is stock except for ignition and manifold (which is a replacement and is the same as a 706 I think). He does real good in stock class from 6500-8500.

IH Puller -

First thing is: Lose the Dyna-Torques. They are horrible tires (IMHO) for pulling. Also, the 103 octane gas is likely HURTING your power output by reducing the flame propagation speed and subsequently the cylinder position at which you achieve maximum combustion pressure. That's aside from the fact that it costs waaaayyy to much too be running in a "stock" 560.

In your case, the things on which to concentrate are tire pressure, weight placement, and drawbar height/length. These are the things that, if adjusted properly, will give you the most "bang for the buck". However, this assumes that your engine is in a proper state of tune...

Just my thoughts,

All you need is the biggest exhaust pipe you can find and the smallest front tires. I would cut the bottom out of a 5 gallon bucket and use it for the exhaust.
Then put the wheels from a push mower on the front of your tractor and get ready for a truck load of $3 trophies.

The 5 gallon bucket for an exhaust is not going to be enough. You have to cut a triangle shape out of the side of the bucket and bend the sides of the bucket together to form the "megaphone". The megaphone should then be put on top of a 6 inch long piece of stovepipe. NOTE: For maximum scavenging efficiency, the handle should be left on the bucket.

Push mower wheels? What? You are not mudbogging with the tractor, you are pulling with it! Two wheels of a 50's vintage pair of rollerskates mounted on the front pedestal get me an extra 3ft on every pull. You'd be amazed at what that extra 2.71 degrees of negative keel angle will do for you...
