I did not have a very good day today. The track was pure, wet sugar sand. I got disqualified twice, 1 for speeding and the other I lost a weight, the weight went under the pan of the sled and got stuck!! Between hooks, the sled would sink about 2 inches and make it hard to pull. I don't mean to gripe, I just don't like it when a county fair hosts a tractor pull, and does not even have a decent track for everyone to pull on, or even help with track maintenence equipment.

Went to a county fair in Britt, IA last year, pulled on a fairly hard, very wide (40'-50') track, (which was nice) but they didn't even run a scraper/grader between hooks! Was told they would scrape it once between classes only,(they forgot to do even that). I know it was 35-40 hooks before they even scraped it once. Guys were zig-zagging between piles/holes, hitting 8" piles of dirt that the pan had pushed up, then would spin out or hit hard track on other side and wheelie badly. Surprised no one broke axles (that I heard of). They even let 4x4 pickups pull in same class against tractors. (1st gear tractors against hopped up 4x4s wasn't pretty)I pulled once, felt lucky not to break something, got my money back from other hooks I had signed up for and went home. Funny, they aren't having a pull this year....

LUCKY YOU!!!, this past weekend we had a tractor pull, or what i would consider a mud bog, our 7000lb class had trouble getting the sled started..... i pulled in 5000 with my tractor in 1st gear and sunk all the way down till my wheelie bars touched the ground(about 10 to 12 inches)..they turned the sled around and i pulled a whopping distance of 35 feet...the winner was a JD(had a weight advantage wih the block being closer to the rear wheels)pulling in 3rd gear in a 3.5 mph hour class about 135 feet...but this still gisgusted him and he left before his next turn.... I don't think i even have to tell yah how my pull in the 4500 went....O WELL.....Be proud JD boys, this was your weekend...They knew the track was bad every single tractor they provided was 4 wheel drive

Spinning in the mud I was there with three JD's but I didn't see as they had an advantage as for the extra weight on the back that is what weights and weight brackets are for, to balance the tractor for different tracks.

Were you at Laporte IN? After the pull I thought that the only thing that would have helped was to be at the top of the weight class, and move a little weight forward to keep the front down longer. Maybe I'll try that next year.
