Besides the MANY changrs you would have to make to use alcohol, The safety aspect would make it prohibitive in an antique pull. It may produce more horsepower on a higher comp. engine and burn cooler, but why use it on a 100 horse eng to begin with??? If you ever experienced an alchohol fire under your hood, You'd understand.

I don't know about anywhere else in the country, but in Wisconsin you have a hard time finding a fire extinguisher at a pull, much less personal trained to fight an alcohol fire, if you send untrained people without the proper equipment you have a potential disaster.

Could it be that it way of restricting compression ratios somewhat? Methanol wasn't being used back in the good old days.

I have heard that before. We don't have compression restrictions, What I would say to that is this., If the fuel system is safe, and inspected by certified technitions, like they do in drag racing, making sure it is safe, all safety equipment on the tractor., then why not. the way i see it, Fuel IS fuel. Using fuel to increase power, is the same thing as stroking, and boring. Just another opinion ChadS

Well I would think that if Fuel is Fuel why not add some nitromethane with our alcohol and see if antique tractor pulling gets more interesting? Surely this isn't being done already? I wouldn't want to see these old tractors melting pistons, sleeves, valves or possibley breaking blocks and cranks when all's they need is larger displacement and keeping R.P.M.'s in reason?

certainly a safety issue. did you see on tv last weekend the racecar driver on the news he sure knew that he was on fire but you can't see the fire with alcohol. by the way do you still want that 450 head? randy

i was told that it wouldnt work through the up draft carb ,its to bad, it would make it run cooler, definately more power, but is also Very corrosive

As long as the carb is modified correctly it works in an updraft intake manifold. There are additives to add to Methanol, "Klotz" oil is used to reduce corrosion.
