That is the way it was around here in Indiana, until 2 years ago. There is other deadweight clubs and pulls around, but is too far away sometimes. I can remember when I was 3 years old, My mom and dad pulled a 3020JD diesil in the heavy weight. All the boys got mad because they got beat by a woman!! So, during that pull, my mother was winning the class and could not be stopped!! For kicks, they put on an additional 4000 lbs to the stoneboat, and bet my dad that she could not move it. Mom backed in the 3020, and tightened the chain and took it over 100ft!!Mind you a full pull, is only 100 inches. The crowd went crazy for my mom. Dad won 200 in the bet and another 150 for prize money, and a 4ft tall trophy!!! Fastforward to 2003. we have a 59 JD 730 that we are pulling now, We were at North Manchester Indiana last month, and Mom drove first, then I was the second driver on the same tractor. It was the heavy weight class, the Big 730 weighed in at 9500. The boat weighed over 38,000 lbs. when we hooked on, it had been stuck and tractors were dropping like flies, it came down to A JDG, our 730 and a 4020JD. Mom pulled that boat like it was nothing. lasted 9 rounds, she went out on the 10 attempt, but she had second place. I jumped on the 730 and gave her a standing ovation, the crowd done the same thing. She got a 5 minute standing ovation!!! anyway, I backed in the 730 to pull the load she could not move. I made half a full pull, 50 inches, and I beat her by .10 of a percent. I felt bad, but she walked out on to the street and gave me an ovation, the crowd responded with a roar, not for me, but for her, I knew this, So I shut off the Deere and stood on the seat and gave her back the driver seat for 1 more hook, Exhibition. Mind you, we went 9 to 10 more rounds and the boat was stuck. She hooked to it an pulled it 75-100 ft all the way down town!!! Talk about tears in my father, and my eyes. Just one more memory to add to many!!! As i sit here and type out this story, a tear of joy runs down my cheek, just thinking about that great night of tractor pulling, I got to share with my family and friends. Great Job, MOM!!! You proved a great point that night, That a woman, can out drive and show us men how to pull a tractor!!! Hope you like this story, I know I get emotional when I think about it. Chads
