I just tore the head off my 80 inorder to r+r the headgasket and thought that since I had it off I might as well do everything. Mill, Valves, and possibly port and polish and three angle valve grind. Is porting and polishing or the three angle valve grind worth the time and effort on a 80 w/stock R's and dis.? It does have good 830 pumps and tips, the block is in good shape, and right now it dyno's out at 75-80 horse with the blown headgasket. If the polish is worth the time and effort, howmuch and where should I take off. I know some local guys I can talk to but I wanted to get as much input as possible. Thanks in advance

Alan

you can do it..but don't take it hog wild, it's an 80, 1 of 3500 made..so...just clean it all up a little and put it back together. the 3 angle I haven't noticed that much of a difference, but I have heard that it gan gain you 1-3 horse. I dunno this for sure, thas jsut what I have heard. doesn't an 80 have a flat-head? if it does, milling it won't gain you much, so...jsut clean it up too.

Yep, your right, the 80 has a flat head. I guess I should have said that I wanted to plane it, simply get it flat again incase it is warped right now. I'm just trying to make sure that there is nothing to go wrong with it when I put it back together. I agree with you, There weren't a whole lot of 80's made so I don't want to get to extreme. Mostly I just wanted to know what simple/inexpensive things might help a stock puller since I'm in there any ways. From the responses I got in the JD page I think I will probably do exxactly what you said. 3 angle, clean it up a bit and put it back together. Thanks for the response.
