Bud; Are you sure you will have the POWER for that fast gear????? Make darn sure you paint it up real good and you might want to wax it before installing it. You would not want it to look bad compaired to the rest of you tractor now would ya? LOL ('';'') BUDD

It will work. You must still use the SM brake pinions,, the ring and pinion will interchange.. will be fast though. ChadS

In COATPA div 7 class, would there be any advatages to doing that and running 2nd gear instead of 3rd or 4th?

2nd and 3rd are more towards the end of the shaft so it doesn't flex as much - 4th is closer to the middle. When you're turning it hard and fast, a little flex of the shaft puts all the stress on the tips of the gears. Then you hear a quick snap, and before you can react the sound of a zip tie being pulled as the gear jams and the constant mesh gear gets pealed off tooth at a time. Been there, done that. Now looking for a better fix - maybe a carrier bearing and eliminating a gear or two??

Any of the COATPA guys coing up with some good fixes for this?? Hear some of the old mods using M rears were beefed up to handle it, but haven't found anyone that knows a precise recipe to get teh job done. We're running a 6cyl. diesel in ours - a little differet from the COATPA, and need to get the rear to hold together better.

Some of them are talking about machining off 5th and putting a carrier bearing there. I wanted to replace 2nd and 5th with 3rd and 4th out of a Super M. (was told that they are different, don't really know for sure)
