Got a couple of pulls in with the Deere 435/Detroit Diesel 2-53 built to "N" series specs & somwhat larger injectors. 4500 lb class 1st time out on a loose limestone track on 45 degree Co-op 13.6x28 easy spins she took 3rd place without smoking in 2nd gear. 20" drawbar full length & didn't lift the front wheels. 2nd time out got a little over confident.Found some FireStone 16.9x30 All Traction Field & Road tires worn to 1/2" tall luggs on concrete. Set the drawbar in 1/2 way, tires 10psi,a hammer strap to lower the drawbar to 18" for that class. Put her in 2nd gear & run out of power on a sticky clay track for 6th place out of 13 pullers.Darn. Went back after the 1st & 2nd place pulled off & tried again in 1st gear. Took the sled farther than the 2nd prize puller.Front wheels were bouncing some & engine was starting to drop RPM & make smoke. Any ideas about tire pressure with those tires, weight & maybe 60 HP.

What are you going to do when the ring and pinion decide not to cooperate?

We put Amsoil 2000 series racing 85/140 synthetic in the transmission. That should keep a film of oil between the gears if anything will. If the oil is clean, no water from condensation or worn shifter boots, intermitent high HP usage at only 4500lbs, she shouild last a while. If worse comes to worse a set of gas R&P gears from 420/430 past serial number 125,000 or from a 1010 before serial number 31,000 will fit. Have a set of 1010 final drives with more reduction on standby.Maybe able to run in 2nd gear with the extra gas R&P & 1010 drive ratio.
