I would travel a little ways to pull in a lite class. I tried to talk to a few board members about a 3000 or under class and they laughed.
We have a Oliver that sound like a Drag Car that pulls 3500 up 6500 if they need a few extra tractors.

I agree. All the big tractors want to run the 3500# class so where do us smaller tractors pull?

That is true.. most clubs take the time to add or remove weight from the sled, or,, they have a transmission with more than 4 speeds. and are geared correctly. We never change gears in the sled any more,, I can't remember at any time,, the sled being in 1st gear. always in second,, Why don't they let the light tractors pull a little farther? Kinda gets old pulling 75 to 100 ft and spinning out. They could change the tranny, or add one, or change the gear ratio in the differential in the drive axle. I think the problem the board is having here is why is the tractors stopping so quickly? how can we eliminate this problem? They think it is easier to throw out tractors instead of redesigning the sled. Every one who has pulled on our sled knows it is a heavy sled. with a huge pan. they have full access to it too, they have their own track and they test it with heavy tractors, that is why everytime they mess with the sled,, the light tractors are always the first to know, because they stop awful quick. In our club on our sled,, you have to weigh over 4500 just to pull it over 100ft!!! On most tracks. it is geared way to fast, for the weight classes we run, below 4500 it should have a slower 1st gear, and after 4500, shift it if they can't stop em,, why are they so afraid of letting us get some distance on the sled and the track? I know this much,, in pulling with the club for 15 years,, I have yet to full pull the sled,, Even at 6500, on a good track,, they add so much weights to the pan,, it still stops you from going much past 125 ft. Board members,,, Spend some of the club money and regear the sled!!! Then,, we will see the tracks stay in better condition, Moral will be boosted, and the crowd will enjoy seeing the tractors go past 100ft!! Don't lighten the sled,, just re gear it,, either in the drive axle,, or the tranny that controls box speed. Yes,, percentage will drop, but so what??? Take a long look at the equipment before you guys start chopping classes. Us little guys can pull the sled,, but you big boys are probably getting tired of getting stuck at a little past 100ft becasue of us spinning out so soon. Think about it!!! Won't cost much to find gears or a tranny with a better gear selection.. Just my thoughts,, ChadS

Sounds like the club wants to get your money and get the pull over with as soon as they can. The sooner it's over the more money per hour they make. This happens alot, especially if it's a rental sled and not club owned. Little tractors pay the same hook fee as big ones. Gear the sled down and let them get their money's worth too.

Seen one of them 8N's with a flathead V8--supposedly factory--at Lanesville (IN) show a few years back...must be a local, seems like he's there every year.

Pull with our local club out of Fletcher Oklahoma. I have my 8N set up for use on the farm ( wet tires, weights, etc) weighs in at 3860 lbs. Managed to pull the sled at our pull labor day a whole 3 feet. Plenty of traction but lacked a lot of horses. Tim

No to the Sherman. Just a stock, wore out 48 8N. Works great for moving, pulling trailer in parades, and disking the round pen. Also great for giving the club the hook up fee. But am looking for another 8N with bad motor, found me a V-8 flathead conversion for one. Still prefer the Super M and the MM UTS though. Tim
