I am going to pull our Farmall Super M this summer. How light can I get it using the original cast hubs on the front and rear?

Thanks, Adam

It will go in 5500lb easy with no weights. If it is a 52 super M drop the belly pump out of it.That will get you somw front end weight to play with.

It weighs 5,610lbs with me on it. I haven't taken anything off of it yet. It still has wheel weights on it too. Would I be able to loose enough weight off of the tractor to drop another class or not?
Thanks,
Adam

Why are you asking what a tractor weights, if you know already? Do you think we are stupid?

No, I don't think he is saying that at all. He is asking about potential. And if it can be done, If it can not be done, he will more than likely stay where he is, But getting it lighter is something pullers struggle with all the time, They have to make due with what means they have. Nothing wrong in asking about things that are possible. That is what these forums are for!! Chad

If you know the weight of the tractor, why ask?
This is what he origanally asked, was'nt it?
As for you CHADS, do you do anything other than talk on this forum? You cant possibly have a full time job and chat all day on this forum! And why i'm at it, this forum is NOT for advertising. That is what half of your replies are on this forum! Don't get me wrong, you have helped a lot of people, and we all thank you. But please advertise in the approprate areas on the web.
Just my 2 cents.

What I do in my spare time is my own business, People ask about the stuff I offer, and I tell them about it. Have you ever seen me put a price on here? then no you can not call it advertising. People come here either to talk about pulling and look for and ask questions. What can I do better? And We tell them!! No they don't have to take the advice, or purchase a thing, but they know the technology is out there. I work 12hrs a day in our machine shop. And if I could I would work 16hrs a day. I make an honest living. I love what I do. That is what counts to me. It should for anyone. I am a tractor puller. I build, restore, tune, and give advice to anyone who asks. Would you get anymore upset if I said call Denny? or Merfeld, or Schooler? Isn't that advertising? Just mentioning their names is free advertisment. I mention what I build because I trust the parts I have, I can't speak for other builders, I do not patronize their service. I trust they do a great job too, but I have to speak about what I know about. Tested and tuned. I give advice on "how to" and tell them that I offer the parts that I mention, but you don't see me typing in "For Sale" in here. Just my opinion, Thank you for the compliments, hope this sheds some light on my mission statement. Chad

Not without donig some work. No pump, no belt pulley or drive, no fenders, drain some oil out of the rear end. No pto. no lights or light bar. Just the little things might get you to 5000lbs. But nothing much lighter than that without going to the extreme. Like lighter pressed steel wheels on front and back, new hitch, only about 2 or 3 gallons of fuel. There is more, but not with out taking it seriously. Hope this helps.

But if someone were to take it seriously, Donnie, what else could he do to get weight off?

If the tractor is strickly a pulling tractor, you can get rid of a lot of wieght from removing the steering piece on the front(the Y pce) of the M. Hand make one out of steel. Make steering shafts out of aluminum. Can narrow up the bull gears in the rear end. Weld on axle plates intead of dual hubs. Make a lighter narrow end. Remove some gears out of the rear end. Fill the rear end housing with foam. Run tubeless in the tires. Light wieght hicth. This is just some of the things that can be done. How far do you feel like going, and whats it worth? Some are fairly easy to get some takes a few bucks. But they are out there. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
