I have a WC I pull in stock classes around here. It has 4 1/8 pistons and a 4 1/2 crank, I was wondering if it would be worth my while to shave the head and put in big valves. If so how much should I shave and what size valves. Any help is apperciated. Thank you

porting would be benificial, but don't do a lot because of the current engine size and speed, bbc exhaust valves work well and there are a few different sizes available to fit the intake and exhaust in the allis head. In a stock application like this I would just use the original valves(for what it's worth) but cut bowls and seats as far out as the valve will seat, enlarge the intake runner a bit, firing order with the siameased ports makes the intake runners the "choke". better manifolding and carb will help a bunch when the head work is done.

A WD-45 head will help a little bit because the spark plug is located closer to the center of the bore. Intake valves and seats for an Allis 175 gas are the way to go. They are a "knife edge" 30
degree cut. You have to see one to understand what I mean. They are worth 3 HP. The only place you can get them are from an Agco-Allis dealer. They are a perfect fit.

Simple upgrade is to go with a 170/175 gas manifold..new or off an old Gleaner..I assume you have already maxed out the carb..Use from same source..Mark

You might deck the block to raise compression but isn't the head flat already?

Bigger valves would probably help to some degree.
If (and you appear to be) you are already larger than stock and the original mfg-er thought the stock valve sizes were right then now they should think the valves are to small. Or go with a D17 or wd or wd45 head. What ever fits. Some one should be able to explain about the tall heads.

I thought the heads were flat. Other than make sure the head is on a flat plane and not warped I don't see a benifit. Look at the ports to see if one of them has a better shaped runner in the intake and exhaust. Some other guys on here should give you a more definitive answer soon though. I'd go with the larger ports and larger valves as long as you don't shroud the valves. It's my opinion that you can't get too big a valve as eaisly as you can get too large a runner to make if function properly. The valve is at the end of the tract. You may not utilize the big valves if you go too big but I don't see it hurting unless you shroud them with the cylinder wall or combustion chamber. Thats how I see it until I get better info to the contrary.
