What's the point of a tractor pull?
I was confused because I saw absolutly no point to dragging a bunch of weights back and forth along a track.
Will someone inlighten me to the purpose of tractor pulling?

I took a city slicker girl to a pull once. She loved the pull and ended up marrying my best friend that she met at the pull. I always had to drag a girl to her first pull and after that they kept bugging me to know when the next one was.

If you didn't have fun, It isn't our fault!

Reasons to pull.....
1) To be around tractors
2) To be around your own kind,(country people who love trators)
3) because it's in your blood THE MOST IMPORTANT
4) To get to kick your best friends butt on the track!

Crazy as Coon Hunters! I loved to coon hunt when I was in my twentys. I would work all day and tell myself that that I would have to skip going out and get some rest. When it would get dark and old Daisy would let out a howl and I would lite a lantern and away we would go and come back in after midnight. At least when you get your tractor ready it don't howl and get you all excited.

Anne, You might want to start with a lawn tractor
with 8 hp or less. At this level you will be able to get some type of feel. If not, try a
push mower and go up and down your back yard!
If you find a rock in your back yard, pushing
your mower you might get a FEEL.

There are three reasons I go to tractor pulls. One is being around the greatest people in the country, two is all of our group finding a great place to stop and eat, three is being as we all brought our tractors along, might as well have a pull.

Kinda funny how the city slickers think that have the world understood. I was born and raised country. I go to George Mason University (in northern VA) which is 99.999 city slicks. Let me tell you, people from the city, DO NOT THINK!!! They can't teach common sense out of a book and the people there show it. I commute 1.5 hours both ways and its worth every minute to be able to come home and sit on my tractor when ever I feel like. Id like to see one of them come into our world for one day, oh wait can't do that- that would be takiing them out of the box they live in.

About the same value of going shopping for clothes, shoes or furniture that's not required when the existing belonging work just fine. About as much sense at chick movies such as "sleeping in Seattle" or going to see the play " Cats" and finding something to enjoy. About as much fun as bingo..... .. Ballet is ok if it's the kind where the women dancers let us stuff bills into thier knickers.

Tractor pullers aren't crazy, just people who enjoy a hobby. Why do anything?, why collect model airplanes if they are ony going to sit on a shelf and don't do anything, It is because it brings joy and happyness to their collecter. People who pull tractors enjoy their tractors, and tractor pulls give collectors/hobbiests a chance to use their tractors and test their capabilitys as well as a gathering of other people who enjoy the same thing. I have pulled several of my tractors, and even though I haven't won anything, I still look forward to this years pull at the local field days. with each pull I learn something new, usually about my tractor, but sometimes about myself. Then I always work to correct it for the next pull. Then if you do win, that gives you bragging rights until the next pull, as well as personal satisfaction that you must have done something right to have come out a winner.

Ya know, I look at it this way. Why are Antique Power shows so popular? Because the older generations want to remember and show the younger generations what it was like "back then". I see tractor pulling as just an extension of that. Instead of just walking along a line of restored tractors, you get to watch and listen to these old iron horses work. Take a look at who most of the spectators at an classic pull are? Older gentleman who used these tractors.
Why do people show horses or race cars or do anything competitive? Pulling is just a chance for us guys who have grown up with old tractors to show off our work horses.

You should leave your email anna, maybe we could all send you some reasons. How did you stumble on this website? You are really a guy right? Probably about 13, just trying to get us older farts stirred up! Now, if you are actually a woman, read as follows:

Tractor pulling is alot like going to the mall and walking around for days at a time looking, touching, feeling, smelling all the new clothes and shoes. For some strange reason you enjoy that. Big difference is, after a year or so you will through away that $5,000 worth of clothes and shoes you bought this year because they are no longer cool or no longer FIT (can i say that on here)but our new old $5,000 tractor will still be sitting under the barn increasing in value and enjoyment. Oh, and I will still be wearing the same boots I purchased 3 years ago that I leave in your way because there isn't room in the closet for your shoes filling up the place.

If this answer doesn't make sense, then you understand our fun about as much as we understand yours. If all else fails, re-read Confederate's post.

And the question is? Think your missing the point here, sounds like a personal problem you can't keep a wife, there are a bunch of us out there who can cook, clean, etc, AND PULL TRACTORS, why, because it's bragging rights, something about being on big red and beating the men really makes my day and if I lose, so whats, it's just for fun. Let's keep the subject at hand and not go bashing women.

I think of tractor pulling as a wholesome sport that the whole family can enjoy. We have "braggin' rights" pulls at our antique tractor club and it's all just for fun and recreation. Folks can learn a lot from watching and listening to other people around. We are all friends and we all try to help each other out the best we can and keep it fun.

Aw heck I'll stop now and answer your question, IT'S FUN! I do haveto admit thought I really like to go to a plowing day better. Lots more time in the seat listening to that old tractor dig and pull :)))

It's just something to have fun with. You get to spend $20000 on a toy (that you can brag is bigger, more powerful, better looking than anyone else's, another $35000 on a truck to haul it with, it gives you something to do with you family in the great outdoors on the weekends, it's hours of boredom with a few minutes of excitement all for something that the wife really isn't that happy to see you bring in the house.

By the way, I'm talking about fishing, not tractor pulling!!!!!
