Can anyone tell me if a cont. 427 engine will fit in a 55 massey frame? Are the 330 and 427 the same block.

Good info, but how hard is it to put the 427 in a 55 Massey? I have a 427 and I have been looking for a 55 with a bad or no engine. I bought the engine for a 44, but I think the engine will look too big in a 44.

The 427 Continental and the 330 are two different blocks. The 427 is longer and heavier. I do not which if either will fit in the Massey 55. I have heard that the 55 can be built to 600 cubes. Not sure if that is maxed out or not.

Allen -

I have built a 55 engine (J382 block) to 650 cubes. The crank gets tight against the crankcase at 7" and 2.5 inch rod journal, but if someone were to use smaller rod journals a bigger stroke would be easily possible.

IMHO building this engine is not worth the time and cost, as the cylinder head is not that much better than the 44 and the resulting performance is therefore lackluster. In addition, the parts such as main bearing, gaskets, and such needed OE type parts are (at least) triple the cost of a 44. I personally would rather build another 570 or 590 cube H260 engine...

Good! Then you understand that it takes more than just "building the engine" to make one run well. There is dyno time, tweeking, a few pulls, some more tweeking, more dyno time. For the cost of that engine and what is in it, it was a helluva bargain.

P.S> To tweek an engine like that (as I mentioned above) would cost another 50% again on top of the price of the engine. Why do you think LW olly engines are SOOOO expensive?
