Can anyone tell me what the stroke is on a BD 220, BD 240, a C263 and a C301? Will the cranks interchange? Also, can a C263 block (sleeveless) be safely taken out to 4 1/8" without resleeving, or is it a bad idea? I know if it could be done, it would be getting awful thin! Do you think it could be done without having to add hardblock? What are some good 6cyl shortblock combos and tricks?...thanks, AC

Find a 301 on 715 IHC combine. Plain head 50ths at 3000 rpm should make about 110 hp. These engines had 93 hp in Neb tests in 806 tractor at 2600 rpm. The truck heads we tested never flowed as much air as combine or tractor heads.

The 460 (221?) had a shorter stroke, the cranks all interchange, 4 inch yeah, I don't think 4-1/8, if it did, it would be thin, Have a look at that cyl head I posted, that will open your eyes to some ideas!! Chad

Yeah, but is a c301 and that 263 the same stroke? In short, do all I have to do to make a 301 is bore it out? Have you ever seen a used stroker crank for sale? What kind of flat top piston would I use? What kind of compression can I get. Will it handle 275+ psi, because If I am going to put this thing together, you can bet I want it to go! I want over 100 hp. As long as I can get jobber prices on this stuff, I think I will be able to afford to spend the saved cash on making good HP. What are the tricks to getting these 6 bangers to run? I see they have the same pin diameters as the h-350.

The 301 and 263 both use the same stroke(4.39). The 301 did not use sleeves but the 263 did. Some pullers say the 301 is the better block for pulling as it supposedly is "thicker" around the bores. (only sonic testing will tell). Pullers typically will take the 301 bore to 4" with no sleeve. To bore bigger and put sleeves in these motors gets a little thin--unless you run a deck plate. A lot of these motors run hard block--biggest problem is water in the oil.(tough to seal the bottom of the sleeves.) The 301 head is a "closed-chamber" head as opposed to the 263 meaning higher compression. You would need to do your homework on piston selection (clearance). Be careful buying a used crankshaft, they tend to crack if run @ high RPM's and these motors love to push the redline. Saw a IH truck head advertised on PULLOFF.COM, might be worth checking out??
