I have 1946 John Deere G with 8" stroke and .250 over and the cam reground with 16.9x38. It powers out in 6500 pound class. It seemed to have a lot more power a couple years back, but it does not cut it any more. Is there anything that could be add to increase the horse? Is there a reduction gear from another model that will fit or adding a Jerry's head?

i pull a 1951 stock G with just the HC pistions and gas manifold, fresh overhaul last winter wow, i have a crapload of power to spare in 1st gear in 6500, on a loose track i can pull in 2nd gear as long as the speed limit is 4 miles an hour, and not stall out, work it hard, but wont stall, and my tractor weighs 6500 right at the money at all pulls i go too

How long have you been running your G with this setup? It's possible you could have worn rings/cylinders or leaking valves. Pulling motors tend to wear out quicker than a stock one, especially if you're not running an air filter.

What gearare you powering out in?
Some say Jerry's head needs alot of cubes to work.
For yours a 3angle valve, job high lift welded rockers from a 70gas.

Still the most bang for the buck is stroke,9.5-9.750 is quite common now.

I have a cousin that pulls a G with the same build...and the swirl head in 2nd gear in the 6000 and has all kinds of power...it has 75 on the dyno..somedays 80....you need to go back through your tractor and work out the bugs...
