I-9 as a Puller?

I have an ex-landlord that I'm still friends with (that in itself is probably rare), and on the back of his lot where his welding shop is, sits an old 9-series International (since it's painted yellow, I'm guessing it's an I-9, rather than a W-9 or an O-9, if there is such an animal).

While the 9 has a big ol' engine with plenty of stroke, I'm just curious as to whether the experts here think--as I'm guessing--that it's just too darn heavy to make an effective puller, and whether or not you could shed enough weight anywhere to MAKE it effective.

So...whadda y'all think?

I have a W-9 that is a legal Div 2 5500# puller. It works great in 6000 and 6500. When I have a good clay track it's hard to beat in the 5500 class. Its biggest problem is the amount of weight that remains on the front to maintain Div 2 legal status. If you can't get it stuck to the track, and transfering weight good in the light classes its pretty hard to do anything. Good luck! One thing about it, there are not many of them out their pulling so its more unique.

The W-9 is a excellent puller.
I have 2 of them and run 6500 to 8500lb classes.
Pulled one apart to bore and stroke it, hoping for a 4th gear tractor in 6500 and 3rd gear tractor in 7500 and 8500.

I've seen them down to 5500#. The one around here is a strong tractor.

Well, that all sounds pretty encouraging. I just might have to give ol' Lloyd a call and see if he'll part with it on the cheap, since it's not currently running.
