Buzzman, got it all back together, changed brain box, and etc, now I have no fuel pressure, have gas out of the tank,, but will not build up the 39psi to activate the injectors. this is an 88 model, not an 87 like I thought,, the book says that SEFI has 2 pumps on the car,, this one has only 1, in the tank. is this right??? looked high and low to find pump #2,, but found nothing. Only thing I have not looked at extensively is the regulator on the fuel rails,, but that is more the less a device that is used for a bypass for excess fuel pressure right????? Basicly, I have torn the injection apart again,, used a distributor hooked up to the harness, and spun it to see what is going on,,, it will activate the fuel pump,, and the injectors, pressure builds for a split second then nothing at all, and the pump is working, no not out of gas either LOL Any ideas from one ford man to another??? Thanks! ChadS

Chad, I'd recommend a junkyard hunt for an '88 or so with SEFI...not necessarily a Mustang, either...that second high-pressure pump SHOULD be located along the frame rail [unibody rail?], somewhere just under the driver...some of the Rangers had that hi-pressure pump, too, even on smaller motors...the in-tank pump is the one more likely to go out, so it's likely that you could get a good hi-pressure pump at the boneyard.

Problem is, I was just a Ford PARTS man...but I did it for about 20 years, so I know a LITTLE about what to look for...I just never wrenched on any except the ones I owned.

I got it running!!! on all 8!! Regulator did the trick!! I searched high n low for that second pump, it only has one for sure. From what I learned,, they utilized the 2 pump system up until late 87 just talking about the Tbird now,,,,, then in 88 they changed them to the single high pressure pump in the tank. I got an adjustable regulator for it,, so I can turn up the pressure to get a bit more. I do still have to prime it to start it, but the plugs may have got gassed, and also, it will not rev up,,, as soon as I touch the throttle, it dies... also,, it has a vacuum leak.. with the leaks, it runs fine,, plug them off, it dies,, so somewhere there is yet another switch in there that is causing a problem. This SEFI is a very interesting fuel injection unit,, I was thinking later down the road,, to change the plentum,, to the truck style manifold,, they have 2 throttle butterflies, and it is about 6 inches longer in the runners. Wont fit under the hood though,,, lol!! Thanks for all your help!! Will keep ya informed on the progress. ChadS

Have you replaced the module on the distributor that the wire harness plugs into? I had the same problem once with a '88 Mustang GT, only mine would work fine untill it got warm (and 30 miles from home) and it would just die, leaving you stranded until it cooled off. A friend of mine at the time worked at a Ford garage, told me to replace that module. The problem went away. He said that module is wired in through the fuel pump relay and regulator so if the engine stops running it stops pumping and/or returns fuel back to the tank. If that module gets confused and thinks the engine isn't running, it will just return fuel to the tank.

Hope this helps,
Mark Damewood
