I have a JD A we recently put together that has a 6.125x7.25 motor w/ a 60 head and carb. its ported and polished. what kind of power SHOULD it have. also, how much power should an A with 5.625x7.375 have for power, it has a cam w/ port and polish. I believe the guy is low on power. he runs 94 gas in it.thanks alot

chuckle... Hubby's Olie Super 88 beat the pants off a JD A in DivII higher wt classes in a brush pull. The A is a previous known winner. He's still scratching his head... We'll see what this fall's pull at the same location will do. I'll bet he's yanked that motor already & is wrenching on it. The chase will be on! :~) Dee

a puller..the way i figure it the 6.125 should make around 63 to 65 hp at 535 pto rpm..we did a 5.625 x 7.500 a and it made 55 hp at 535..probably 1 less for the 1/8 inch less stoke..this a had 9.5:1 compression..lynn

You'll have to take it over to your cousin's and put it on their dyno.

I would be very dissapointed with that engine only producing 58HP... with that kind of work.. but it will depend on your compression.. the 60 head gives you a large combustion chamber... but good flow.. Are you running custom pistons.. or the powerblock pistons... I am comparing HP numbers to a G... I don't have my A together... I would that closer to 70hp or more would be more ideal...

well, I dont' believe an A breaths like a G, b ut I don't know for sure. we need to put it on the dyno again since it was a FRESH engine, like 15 minutes put it on the dyno. I believe it has picked up power since with 16.9x38 tires are on it and you can dang near spin the tires in 5th by crackin the throttle. what about the A 5.625x7.375? should it run more then 50 hp? thanks alot, a puller

I really have no idea.. the compression will make a big difference... I havn't run any A's of thoses sizes on the dyno.... It will be at least a yr before I have my A running.. JDGnut

I have no idea what the tractor will make.. 5.75 x 9.. 60 head, 70 carb... I'll be lucky to have it running by Christmas... but She'll be on a good diet... If she's not in the mid 70's or more... She'll taken apart.. and redone... I am expecting more than that.. JDGnut
