I've got an 8N that would make you big cube Farmall and Deere boys run and cry. I'm running 82 PTO HP, 18.4 x 34 Cut Firestones, 110 Octane in the 5500 lb antique class. I keep twisting the input shaft on my tranny. It's getting expensive to fix. Any Help.

Why would you brag about anything with only 82 HP ????

Blue Power:
I had heard (and believed) that the pinion gear in the differential is the weak link in the 8N drive train. Have you had any problem with that?
What engine are you running? What tires / rims are you using? Did you change the geering at all?
I've got a 49 Funk 6 cylinder that I'm working on "tuning" up a bit. The engine has plenty of potential and room for improvement, but I'm worried about the strength of the drive train and the best tires for the stock geering?

It probably IS the weak link, but only if the tranny can get the power that far. I worked on a few of the little Fords back in my New Holland days, and had to replace the differential pinion and drive tube in a little "N"-series. The guy had a ripper on it and hooked a stump or rock - twisted the tube in two AND broke off the pinion shaft. Not the greatest design. If the original post is for real, and if he ever gets the tranny to hold, and if he ever gets it hooked hard, I'd put money on the drive tube being the next "fuse" in the powertrain. If he's lucky he won't take the pinion too, but I wouldn't bet on it. Apparently there IS such a thing as too much horsepower. Myself, I'd get sick of replacing the same part over and over. You can split an "N" in about twenty minutes, but still.

I guess some of the IH M, JD G, Massy 44 boys Need an education! I know a fellow with a pair of Fords, a 901 on LPG pulls stock and it is stock from 4000 to 5500. He also has a 960 that is modified that will pull with anyone at 3500 to 5500. I think he is from Arkansas! I do not know the HP on these tractors but they will pull.

Why way up there in the 5500lb class? The little Fords run the 4000/4500lb classes and even 3500lb if pruned a little.

Not to be a wise guy, but looks like something green will solve the problem. Just kidding--wish I could be of some real help.

Ok. I am not from Missouri, but show me. I'd like to see a picture. I work at a New Holland dealership and I'd like to have a pic of that 8N on my desktop background.

I like the fact people are trying with different colors but some tractors just are not "beefy". Yes Deere and IH are tough. I run MMs. Never seen any of them blow apart even with 1200 cubes crankin on them. (None of mine big like that.) Still I know there are special input shafts for MM out there as well as other makes. Keep pumpin the power guys.

I'm working on a billet input at my machine shop, so when it's done I'm coming for your little sandbox ornament. Let me guess, Farmall M?
