Well, still chewing up 4th gear in my H, even after changing gears and shafts late last week, Just by hooking up to something and puttin some power to it, it still kicks out of 4th. Now, here is the kicker, I have a latch on the gear shifter to hold it in gear,, but,, internally, it kicks it out. Something broke or worn out in the shifter linkage?? Never had this happen like this before, gotta get it going for wendsday nite pull,, still apart,, any info would be great fellas!! Thanks in advance,, Chad

Chad have you checked the little bearing at the front of the shaft? (The one closest to fourth gear.) That is the only thing that supports that shaft (top shaft), and if the bearing is wore it will let the shaft droop and allow them to kick out of gear. Had my M do that and changed that bearing and all is well now. Wasn't pulling my M but was disking with it and it jumped out all the time. Not even a trusty tarp strap would hold it in. My 2 cents.

Yes, replaced it the last time I had it apart this spring, the shafts are in good shape, not bent or worn out, gear is tight on the shaft, the last time, the shifter linkage bent out, (forward) and the gear only slid partally onto the bottom gear, I think this has happened again, cause the shifter dont move when it pops in and out of gear, with the shifter locked, it kicks out, and then rite back in, and then out again, happens so fast and unexpected, no time to do anything but shut it down but the damage already hapens before I know it. is there any place where I can find the measurements for the shifter forks to assure proper gear location? Chad

Hi chad, I hope I can help you with you 4th gear problem. First inspect the pinion bearing (fits into 5th gear) second inspect input bearings (wore out or spun in housing),third inspect gear teeth (I have found from not meshing fully, bent (angeled) teeth)
forth, when installing top shifter cover check gear alignment through belt pully cover hole in top cover. Bend shifter fork (heat first) so that gear is fully engaged. I also deepen the detent grove in shifter rail and use a stronger spring. Lastly try not to use 4th gear on high traction tracks.
Both H's & M's have weak 4th gears.
Hope this helps Farmall

Sorry about the other day,,, frustrated,, Been running 3rd all season, and have good luck, good power tracks,, we got a few loose tracks coming up, tearing into the top plate in a few, the fork was bent,,, again, went and got another fork assembly, and looking to reenforce the area where it flexes. Farmall, thanks,, ChadS
