Papa, Here in Illinois we have 2 sanction class of mini rod limited 1800lb and 1900lb. Classes .We pull under ITPA www.itpapulling.com. Iwould like to see 2500 lb. class at least they might be able to take advantage of all the HP they have. They can throw the dirt and make the dust fly. Earl

They make a bunch of noise. They just don't pull like you would think they would. The reason I say that is that, I change the gears on one of the local clubs sled. It takes less to stop one then a super/div 4 or 5 tractor of the same weight. Just watch the box the next time you see them run. The torque just aint there.

None of these that I saw ran out of power...

They all had cut tires, and when the sled stopped them the tires were going so fast that they just "skated" sideways until the driver shut it down..!! I heard some estimate the HP at 600+.... I am sure they don't pull as much as the diesels, etc..But it was great fun watching these..!! Sure would be more fun than building a street rod...!!! AND a whole lot cheaper...!!

Every modified I've ever seen has had more power than they could put to the ground, but all their power is on the top end, which is probably what Casepower is referring to. To make 600+ horsepower in a naturally-aspirated small-block of only 410 cubic inches takes a big camshaft, huge ports and valves, single-plane intakes and other high-rpm parts - and high engine RPM - not much lugging ability there. They make a lot of noise and go fast, but I'm not sure they'd be more fun than a drag car, and are probably more dangerous. Although put that 600-horse SBC in a Nova or Chevelle, make it hook and you're going to cover a quarter mile quicker than those modifieds go 300 feet.

These guys were turning probably around 9,000 RPM, and had cut tires.. Funny to see a JD 3010 with a sm bk Chevy..!!
