I was considering a positive traction differential for antique pulling. Is this a good investment for an antique? Is it alot of work installing one? Where can I buy it, and what is a ball park price? Tell me if you have had good/bad experience with them? Let me know what you think, thanks

Well, look at it this way,, you build a strong engine, ya know spend thousands of dollars to make those tire sing on the track, then, you get to the end of the track,, suddenly,,, the classic, "One wheel spin out!!" and you stop, dead in your tracks!! Spun it out!! All that new HP you got, dont mean squat, if you cant get it to the ground. So if someone spends all that $$$ on the engine,, why not on the rear end as well? How many professional drag racers do you see, that dont have a posi, or a limited slip axle? NONE!! Now you want information on if it works, how does it work, and what the benefits are,,,,

HERE IT IS!! From the people who build them. First, lets talk about division pulling, lets say from 3-8mph. A limited slip, works alot better in this case, when you lock up both rear tires, you will spin em out easier rather than a limited slip, dont know why that is,, maybe weight location was wrong,, or??? I dont know,, but when the tires have a bit of slip between the two,, it helps them out better to grab a bite, VS the full lock posi. Also, when you have a full lock posi, you cant steer it!! pushes the front end in a straight line. Limited slips,, you are able to steer it, and on the track, you are able to hit a brake to correct direction, it disenguages, when you hit the brake, straighten up, and as soon as you release the brake, in enguages back up. Now lets talk about the 'Go fast classes" 8mph and up,,, Tire, and ground speed has a different effect on the bite of the tires, a limited slip,, helps,, but in this case, and tighter slip is nessisary, for when you need both tires spinning at the same speed, and you have the ground speed to back it up, the posi is better. More consistant tire speed, and ground speed. Also,,,,, you guys wit the big HP tractors,, how many times have you got the tractor bouncing back and forth, cause one wheel breaks traction, then the other tire grabs, and throws you around??? Or, have to launch them off the line slower, because you have to wait for it to get straight, and then hammer the throttle. Well, that right there, can cost you a foot or two, cause it could take 10 ft to get it going, and you are not up to speed in that 10 ft. with a limited slip, or a posi,, you can come off the line easier, and harder, and straighter, sonner over a stock rear end. Hope this makes sence a bit,,,,
Is it easy to install??? Depends,, you have to remove the brake pinion shafts for us to machine, and install the kit, some disk brake models,, the pinions come right out, with out disassembling the entire final drive. Band brakes,, like the old H and M farmalls, you have to tear the eniter final drive apart to install our kit. good time to check out the tranny, bearings, and tolerances in the rear end. Kits are $749+shipping. ChadS
