Gentlemen,

Looking for input on a single "ALL AROUND" tractor that I could setup for antique and stock farm classes. Most of what I see around here in NY are John Deere G"s,A"s,B"s, 820"s720"s, 620"s- Farmall M"s,H"s- some 560"s/460"s- Oliver 88"s, 99"s,
Any input will be greatly appreciated as I am sure there is a lot of knowledge out there from past experiences. WT classes are from 3500 to 15500lbs in farm stock. Antique is from 3500-8500 lbs.

Thanks,

Bob

Gentlemen,

"Still" looking for input on the best all around stock tractor for pulling in antique and farm classes. Stock to me is factory specs and not enhanced or super stock.

Thanks,

Bob

If you are looking for a pure stock antique puller, like a NATPA Div 1 tractor, then you have a big list to pick from. I would look for a fairly high horsepower to factory shipped weight ratio. You can figure this out from the nebraska tests. Row crop tractors typically pull better that a standard tread one. The beauty of a pure stock classing is it is most times not horsepower or track speed that decides the winner, but track skill and just plain old luck! Most stock tractors can pull in 3 weight divisions covering 1000 lbs with no problems, like 4000, 4500, 5000. Keep in mind also that tires size rules play in also and you may end up limited on one end or the other there also. In my experience in 10+ yrs of stock antique pulling with Farmall C, H, JD B, and a Mc-D OS-4 the main thing was I had fun and met some nice folks no matter which tractor I was pulling. I was competitive, got my share of ribbons and trophies with any of the tractors. My personal favorite is the Farmall H... but a 6 cylinder Oliver looks like it could be a lot of fun also! AC WD's have great potential also. What ever you choose to pull with I hope you keep it as a fun and enjoyable way to spend free time!

Dunb question here but how do you get a 477 Gingrich in Farm Stock? I don't ever remember any of those being in a Stock tractor...

I have been to many tractor pulls and pull an 88 with a STOCK motor. I was being sarcastic as I know full well the term Farm Stock is a load of crap as we have a guy running a 1850 motor in an 88 around here not to mention irrigation motors in Molines. Not that it really bothers me alot as long as there is a speed limit and RPM limit I can pull with those guys as well.

Speed limit is a really nice equalizer on the track:) I am just mainly curious as to how it is classified as a Stock tractor?

It looks stock, it sounds stock, you would not know it was not if I didn't tell you. Around here if you don't want to get beat you better spend some money.I pulled this tractor at the Dekalb pull, div 3,4mph. I didn't win but I was not last.

I hate that that's the way it is, but that is a good answer. I learned that last year when I started pulling farm stock.
