New pump, WOW! New truck! Did not know it supposed to run like that. One question, there is a piston assembly at the bottom of the pump, it has linkage going to it actuated by the throttle linkage, what does that do? The old pump this was stuck. ChadS

The plunger at the bottom of the pump that is operated by the lever at the side of the pump RETARDS the injection timing at high throttle lever settings.

High throttle setting = pumping pistons fully filled, so injection starts earlier than at low throttle settings. Lever operated "retard" counteracts this, to keep start of injection at a safe degree of advance.
