What are some things/parts that can be done/changed to increase the Horsepower on a 4010 Diesel without putting a Turbo on it. Just got the tractor and want to power it up over the winter for pulling next summer. May put a turbo on it next winter, but want to see what it will do without one first. Any ideas and tips would be appreciated.

The 4010 head with the big Bendix injectors will flow more air than the newer 4020 head. If you've got the head off port and polish it. JD makes a few different cams for the 404 engines with and without turbos, I'll let you figure which one will be best for you. I've replaced my cam, now it sounds like a Dodge Pickup!! More low end power,Less smoke too. It's a new cam grind JD came up with for the new Clean Air Standards. Put a Paper Air filter on,(NEWER 4020)Remove the old oilbath. Get the new style injection pump with centrifugal advance.Turn it up! Mine does'nt smoke at 10% over with the new cam (at idle) I need to turn the pump up more. When pulling mine will start to smoke real good then when the tires start slipping at the end of the pull the RPM's stay right up there but it quits smoking (guess it doesn't need any more power)

not sure but you might be able to put a 4020 head on it. Other than that not sure other than turning fuel and rpms up the 4010 deisel we farm with is at about 100 to 110 hp just overhauled and a little fuel to her
