Ok, I need some helpful advice on restoring an Allis Chalmers WC. I"ve only restored JDs in the past and don"t know a whole lot about Allis Chalmers. I have several options but wanted to go the best route for making a good puller. I"ve come across 2 wcs 1 is an unstyled and the other styled. The styled has pretty much everything there. However, the unstyled only has the frame and rearend. I was thinking about putting the styled engine on the unstyled frame just because I like the way the unstyled looks better. I would really like to stay in the farmstock class, but if it would make a better puller to go modified, what all could I do to make it a good puller?

I would go with the styled but thats just me, I think they look nicer. But either way, with the motor I would go with Your WC block a Wd45 crank, 1/8" over flat top pistons which will make about 200 lbs of compression and a cam done by JT Richardson This makes a cheap 70+ hp. Also find a head off a late WD or WD45 you will know it when you see it cuz its taller than the one on yours - they are just a better head. You will be able to run 2nd gear on any track. Get yourself a good set of tires and you'll do very well in the 3500# class

If you are going modified go to a D-17 or Gleaner E block they are stronger and the main bearings are larger. If you are going to stay farm stock you will want to stay with the WC block. Use a WD-45 crank and pistons with the WC block. It is a 4.5 in. stroke as compared to a 4 in. in a WC motor.

Thanks again for the feedback. Would you go with the styled or unstyled WC? How about the transmission in these? Would I need to do anything to make the it stronger in the rear end or would it take the extra power without any problems?

I would go with the unsyled but only on appearance. They are basically the same. As for the transmissions, depends on how much more power you are talking. The real weak spot is the rearend in them. They will take alot though. They are being pulled with 100+ HP.... but they will break on occasion :)

Ok, thanks. I guess I'm leaning toward the unstyled using a D17 motor, if I can find one in good shape close to where I live.
