I had a question about building a jd 70 gas puller. Can the following be done or will bolt holes, etc. not line up correctly. Use a bored G block (.125 over) with unstyled G flat head and use the 70 manifold with duplex carb. What kind of horsepower would I be looking at or would it be better to go with a different engine setup?

Thanks for all the replies. I think at this point, I"ll go back and tinker with the G some more.

Ive got a 70 with a broken crankshaft Id like to get rid of. It has a power block and everything . Set up for a 9.5 crankshaft. Im guessing with a new crank you could get around 100-110HP. You wouldnt have to do any grinding, Its all been done.

You are trying to bolt a dual passage intake manifold onto a single passage head. The G blocks are longer than the 70 gas/LP blocks. The rare $$$ 70 all-fuels shared the same G block and head bolt pattern. The volume of the all-fuel 70 head is huge and high compression is tough to come by. For souped pulling, get a lightweight G and Jerry's monster sized head and block. The 70 is heavier. A good machine in the stock and near stock classes. The entire intake system on two cylinders has heated, long length and small dia passages. This was to burn distilate fuels and build low rpm torque. At higher rpms, the torque output fades away fast. High rpm/high HP is $$$ to come by.
