What is the best "stock" venturi for an H-M based engine? I have one out of an M, one out of a 350 (I think) and a couple 6 cylinder carbs, in which the venturi is MUCH larger on the inside with less of a taper. I understand that velocity increases with a smaller hole...etc....what do you all think? What about one out of a W-9 or 450? What are the carb bore sizes for a 350, M, 450,W-9...etc?...AC

AC, Stock to stock, in the shebler model carb on the Super H-450, the torque venturi is from the Super M in the M-450, the big cubes love the 450 venturi, the 6 cyl loses torque and HP in the 4 cyl engines. if you have a very very strong torque curve, and want to knock some out so it bites a bit better, run the 6 cyl venturi, (on bigger hp engines of course not stockers) The vaccum rate in the manifolds are alot different from the 6 cyls, vs the 4 cyls. Both, take a different breath in the intake. On modified H engines,, like yours, the M venturi would work great, good torque, and good 540 hp, the 350 venturi, would give it a bit more lugging power, under 540, but 540 power is lost from being too dense of mixture. Not enough air, too much fuel. But it lives off the compression to keep running, and holds torque better. but thats for finding peak torque in your engine. Get a vaccum guage and look for the highest, reading at wide open throttle. the more vaccum pressure in the intake,, the better quality draw the engine takes in to the cyl chamber. ChadS

Oh yeah, what is the point of the economizer plug in the side, and what does it do?

If you have more than 5in. of vaccume, you need to give it more. Hollar at me sumtime!

If your engine is stock use the stock venturi. Now if you have a modified engine you will have to experiment and see how your engine responds to the larger diam. size! Too large and you will have a sluggish engine with no more power than your original size. The econimizer allows vacuam into the fuel bowl at partial throttle setting and that will raise your fuel level in the bowl allowing for a slightly richer mixture. I"m not a expert here but have had carbs apart way to much.
