Just purchased a 4010 John Deere diesel for pulling only, will be running in the 100-150 hp range. Should I run an 18.4 x 38, or a 20.8 x 38? Will be running primarily 8000 & 9000 classes, but will be getting up to 10,000. And finally what air pressures are run in these weight classes? Thanks in advance.

What kind of track surface and how is it maintained during pulls?

Mostly moist clay tracks with a good bite.

Given two tires with the same size contact area. A looser track works better with a taller/narrower tire, so some say. Of course some pulls have been won on loose tracks with short wide tires..... ..... ....

20.8x34 or 23.1x34 if you have no tire size ristrictons. air press depends on brand of tire.

Would like to run a 38" tire, not really interested in the 34" because the setup I have is for 38" rims. I will put a set of 16.9 x38" on for 6500#, but would like to know what would work best for 8000-9000 lb classes.

20.8,a good rule of thumb for pulling is approx 1.25 lbs air pressure for every 1000 lbs tractor weight.start with 10 psi for the 8000 class, might have to shave it a tad if you have enough wood to spin them.
