suggestion,go with chromemoly 4130.
light weight and strong, tougher than stone underwear.
depending on what you are putting them on they are simple to make, first tubes strait out with a 90 degree bend.
then a plate welded on the bottom, butt another pipe to the first and run at an angle back to the ?-(we try to bolt them to axel housing).
2 short pipe to do diagonal braceing and you are done.
lift rear of tractor full of weights with 1 side to be sure they will hold.

Funny thing about aluminum...

1. It weighs 1/3 that of steel.
2. It is 1/3 as strong as steel.

My opinion, good for things in which you can utilize sectional characteristics, but for something like this, I think you could make it just as strong with steel for the same weight.

Very good point, but a well engineered aluminum truss can be stronger then a poorly engineered steel one, that weighs ten times as much. I have built aluminum wheelie bars and they work fine but need to be engineered and welded properly. My opinion of course.
