There are 2 ways to do it. Either make the chevy bellhousing bolt pattern in the M's engine plate, Chevy flywheel, clutch, and hides inside the M bellhousing. Space is tight for the starter, maybe a bellhousing mounted stater, like the old 283-327 chevys with a powerglide tranny. It is like a 3 bolt mounted stater, found on the big blocks, and small blocks, I found one on a 62 Impala with a 283/powerglide. Other option is to mount the entire 4 speed bellhousing to the engine plate, then you have room for the starter, which mounts to the chevy bellhousing. You can have a clutch plate made to have the M spline on the imput shaft, and still fit the chevy clutch. Basicly 4 bolts on the bellhousing and engine plate, a input shaft bearing, and a pilot bearing made, or the M shaft turned down to fit a chevy pilot bushing. Then, what ever front engine mounts you choose to make. The 4 speed bellhousing moves the engine forward more,, mite help balance it,, A fellow a while back posted pictures of one he had done, and it was Sweet!!! if he is still around, maybe he would post a picture or two again? Hope this helps, ChadS

With the engine plate bolted on the back of the engine, if you look at a high torque starter, and cut the engine plate for the starter nose cone, you mite get away with not widening the rails. it will still bolt to the engine, or the engine plate, depends on what type of starter you can get your hands on. The 4speed bellhosing method, just have to notch the frame rails on one side, it is moved forward farther, and away from the M bellhousing and where the rails bolt on the bellhousing. giving it a bit more room. not much, but something to work with.
