1 atmosphere is 14.7 psi, so you would think that a 10:1 engine would show 147 psi. It seems, however that the compression gage thinks atmospheric pressure is about 20psi. So a 10:1 engine usually reads about 200psi. 8:1 -- 160psi. Talk to someone smarter than me, maybe they have a chart or a better explanation.

compression is the volume of displacement compared to the volume of the combustion cavity that is the ratio .

An Ampmosher of presure is 14.7 psi so in theory a 10 to 1 cr should give you 147 psi. But valve timing and volumetric efficancy will make a differance. Hope this helps.

the psi is dictated not only by static compression ratio(measured ratio), but by the valve timing. the later the intake valve closes
the less the psi will be. if the intake closes early the piston has more drive time to build up pressure.
