I just got back from the NATPA pull at Lincoln, NE. I witnessed one of the most amazing things that I have ever seen. Shellum's new G from South Dakota blew apart at the crankcase. He was running Kansas block. They had to grind the crankcase real thin on the sides to make it fit. He was runnning down the track in Division 4 5000 and when it got into the gov. hard, it just split in half. He was thrown forward out of the seat luckily landing on his feet. He was not hurt. I am sure that someone will have some pictures of it soon.

Do any of you guys know why it came apart.Did he run to high rpms or did the crank let go?.Sure must of been a ride.Glad to hear that he is ok.Sure looked like a nice looking G thanks to the info on some pics from JDGnut.How big do you guys think the motor was as far as stroke& bore.Thanks guys.

The crankcase itself is the part that let go. It split right behind where the block bolts down. As far as things looked, the crank was in one piece. One guy carried the cam off still in one piece!!! He was running one of those recast 7.5 inch blocks. They have to grind the crankcase real thin on the sides to make it fit. Combining the 7.5 bore with, I would guess, around a 10.5+ inch stroke that would put him in the mid 900's as far as cubes go.

This doesn't work. I tried to go to the site you said and look at the pics and I cannot find anthing there. How do you view the pics you're talking about?? I typed in the line you have there with the Link etc. etc. and it doesn't have any pictures like you're talking about. Sure would like to see them.....

I tried and a friend tried.. and it came up.. just cut and pasted it.. it takes forEVER to load if U are on a phone line.. friend got lots of errors before it finally came up... the individual pics may take a few mins to load, depending on your connection.. JDGnut

Well now I witnessed a guy I know that has an Oliver 88 with a Shipman motor scatter the crank. He paid somewhere around 18,000 for it. I GUESS IT HAPPENS TO ALL OF THEM NOW DOESN'T IT. Also in my life witness a 70 Oliver break in half when the front came down at a pull in Adam's TN four years ago.

Face Reality poor todd, IF you want to play with the BIG boys in Div4/5 you'll spend 15-20,000 for a motor most likely!! IF you can't afford it, don't whine. You whiners are the 1ST ONES standing at the edge/sides of the track then to watch when these machines come roaring thru....wishing you could be on one I guess???

no one is whining about price. My comment is that ALL makes and models will break when the engines is maxed out. Maybe your'e the whiner, it didn't take long for you to throw a little tantrum and criticize a comment from someone else. You don't know me, or anything about me. The problem is, and I have a 9" X6.125 A , is that a two cylinder can be too big. You don't have a nice even overlap in the firing of the motor ,like in a 4 or 6 cylinder. When you hear a bout 10" two cylinders or bigger, they are bombs, the work good for a while, then boom, ask some of the best at it and they will tell you the same thing. when you start moving cams and the like, it really takes the life out of them. That is why I chose a 9" motor, I could have went a little bit bigger but the builder didn't really suggest it for me , and I don't go to national events either. If i was going big time, I'd build a case or an oliver,although i heard that farmalls were doing well a the thanksgiving pull at columbus this past fall. I did have the opportunity to see a 88 oliver split at columbus a couple years ago.
Not pretty to be dragged off by skid loader ratchet strapped together.
