Gents,

I need help locating a hi-torque starter for a large cube/hi comp 88 motor. I've heard that a Deutz or a Ford Diesel truck starter is used. Model or part numbers would be appreciated. Thanks.

best you can do is a new John Deere replacement starter for 4020 they bolt right up and are available at any dealership for about $320.

Get a Delco 28MT and buy a new bendix for it that will work with you flywheel. Lightweight and will start the biggest engines with a good batt. If you can't find one, email me I have a spare on my shelf.

Cody, I know in the past you had mentioned a Ford 6.9 starter. Is this correct? a direct bolt up? What about the bendix for it?

As long it is a 28MT. On some of the 6.9 starters, the selinoid is in the wrong place. It will bolt up but the selinoid will hang outside of the frame. The 4020 replacements are 28MT's.
