I've read all the posts up to now, and here's my 2 cents. First of all, what is STOCK - OUT OF THE FIELD? Does anyone remember M&W? With STOCK M&W parts and later IH production 450 parts, any M will make 60-70+ hp and pull a plow all day, every day, with maybe a few less total hours between overhauls. Secondly, STOCK - OUT OF THE FIELD is no longer M's, WD-45's, 88's, G's, and so forth if your trying to say "This is what I currently farm with to make a living". Heck, 1066-1206's are a thing of the past. Thirdly, man is man, this is not IROC Racing, we are free to tune to our pleasure. This is where the fun, competition and satifaction comes from. Fourthly, these tractors are called ANTIQUES because they are a thing of the past that we still hold near and dear. We love them in our own way. And, yes in deed, we save they from the melting pot. Lastly, the fact that you can take a STOCK machine, bore it .375+ over, stroke it 1.000+, change head/carb/cam, turn only 10-30% over the original rpms, double the horsepower, and still run it as long as you want without over-heating speaks volumes for the engineering/potential/thought/foresight that went into the design of these old beasts. If you try to modify a 2002 engine with these parameters, and expect similar results, your just pi$$ing in the wind. We love, compete, restore, and overall market the whole ANTIQUE TRACTOR cause!
