Im gonna bore the block on my 460H later this month, How big can the 6 cyl block go and still run on the block without aftermarket sleeves? Id hard block it if I had to, Im looking at 366 Chevy big block pistons which are 3.937 bore. can the block take it? Im not stroking it, since I have a high compression cyl head, and on a budget. The block I have is a sleeveless combine block (C263) it is roughly a 69 or a 70 model year block if that means anything. any info would be great! Thanks! ChadS

a 301 block can be bored to 4" the sleeve less 263 are supost to be the same. but i know a few people that worked for IH they said most all the combine blocks were rejects the wouldn,t make the grade for a farm tractor, and i've sonic tested 2 sleeveless 263 blocks they were like .400 on one side the cylinder and .100 or less on the other

Yikes! Looks like Ill go with the .060 over 301 pistons, keep it a bit more solid. I was looking at the chevy pistons cause of the price of what I could buy chevy pistons VS the IH set. Im not trying to go too radical with the engine, want it to last for a long long time. Maybe some day,, put it in a real 460??? The hunt is on for a set of LP, High Alt, .060 over 806 pistons! Hope there is some left out there somewhere! Thanks guys! ChadS

We used to bore the 560 gas for M&W pistons&dry sleeves. The bore was 3.750 but I looked in my old M&W book it didn't give spec on the sleeve. Sometimes we would bore through and have to install a dry sleeve first then bore and install the thin wall flanged M&W sleeve.I think the 706 gas had a little more meat. I don't recall boring through on them. Earl
