A big difference. 8043DC castings are the old gas version for the H. Thats as best as it got For the high compression heads of that time. You find them on bout any H. The combustion chambers in the 8043dc heads, do not have a slant casted into one side of the compression chamber, the piston design for the H's, were stepped head pistons. On most Super H's youll find the 8043DD cyl heads. The 8043DD was a duplicate cyl head to the 300-350 style cyl head, just carried the old 8043 casting number, till the 300 came out. The differences in these style cyl heads VS the old 8043 heads were they were compatible with firecrater pistons, the old heads are not. On the new style heads, there was a casting change in the compression chamber along one side to make room for the new dome shape of the firecrater, and, makes a different burn in the cyl to compliment the firecrater piston design. They were also shallower in the compression chambers when measured from the bottom of the chamber, to the mounting surface. or deck.(higher compression head) The valves were different lengths, and the intake and exhaust ports were lots bigger on the SH-350 heads. this cyl head also had a cam that complimented the cyl head changes, since the firecrater pistons ran so differently, they had to change the cam grinds on them as well to give it bit more power. add the bigger carb to them, and its a great set up for an H. LP 350 heads, highest compression ratio head, very very shallow compression chamber, cant use a very tall dome on them at all. The chambers are bigger in diameter, spreads out the flame front all the way across the piston head. The ports were a hair bit bigger than the SH-350 heads. Outside casting difference as well along where the manifold bolts on. I was thinking the difference in the cc's of the heads were about 50 cc's apart from each other, as the model years progressed, old h heads were 100 cc's bigger than the 350 lp, the SH-350 were 50 less than the H head. The head gasket on the SH-350 was bigger in diameter because the engines C-169-175 has bigger bores, and had a bigger sleeve flange diamter, to help hold down the sleeve. Hope this helped. ChadS
