I got my set of 16.9X38s. Now I am wondering really how wide I can go with them. Id like to put them on a 20.8 rim, but is that too big. Also, if I cant go with the 20.8 can I with with a 18.4. Let me know what you think.

50 G, the best size of rim for a tire of that size is a 16" or maybe a 17". You will get all kinds of opinions on rim width but the ideal is to have the rim the same width as the sidewall of the tire, letting the sidewall be "square" with the rim. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks Mike

What I will do is go with the 17 inch. They are on a 12" rim now... I have no idea why. I found a realy jem of a pair. The guy had them on the tractor backwards for some odd reason, and they are worn with a PERFECT edge.

But you dont think that an 18inch will work. The reason I ask is the pure fact of not having to cut a pair of rims and weld them.

Thanks
50G

I beleive if you look on the sidewall it will tell you the recommended rim width,in my OPINION I have never been led astray by the manufacturer. They are the ones that built it,we all just modify it.

Depends also on the rules that are in place with your pulling groups. Some have rules requireing a person to match the recommended rim width.
