I pull my 1950 Oliver in the 13,000 lb farm stock class. Its factory stock and I can only run high 2nd with 18.4x38's.

I think it will take 140-150 horses to run high 3rd.Can I get that much by only adding bigger injectors? If so what size and what price range do they sell for?

Our local 2 cycle Detroit mechanic is about ready to retire so need to get something done soon.Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys.Tom,at wide open throttle the 1950 will run 15 mph in road gear.I'm allowed 3000 rpms in my class so will get it turned up to that.I may try and put N-70's in it but that will probably end its use as farm tractor.I'd like to be able to stay in high 3rd at 13,000 lbs and never have to shift down. The IH's and JD's will still beat me but maybe I can stay fairly close to them. Thanks again.

I too pull with a Detroit Oliver(1900)in 12500 and some 13000 pound classes.Gear I can run varies a lot with each different track and how sled is weighted /set.Before I touched the motor , I never had it run out of power in 2nd low, but at most pulls if you tryed 3rd it would kill it. Now that I overhauled , and put N70 injectors in it seems to hang on well in 3rd, and have even tryed 4th with some success. I have 20.8 x 34 rubber which is probably not much different than your 18.4 38"s. It is my understanding that you should get about 140 HP with the N70"s I would guess a turbo would be in order to acheive 175 plus? But I am only going by what I have been told , so BuickandDeere may know more about this than I do. I have never had the oppurtunity to put her on a dyno to see what it is turning, but if and when I do I will post what it is putting out. I should note that 1900 may be a different ratio rear than your 1950?? Now that I have turned up the rpm"s It will do 20 mph wound out in high gear, but at stock rpm"s I seem to remember 13 or 14 was all it would do. How fast does yours go in high at 2300 rpm? Oh price I paid for injectors was about $75 canadian with exchange.Good luck with your 1950.

A bone stock "N" spec four valve 4-53 with a dry airfilter. She should make 140HP at 2800 rpms with just factory spec N50's. If you don't mind smoke and slobber from the stack she will take N70 or N80' and may make 175HP at 2800rpm.
