9" is very common, fairly easy to fit in. Stay with 3" journals for strength. (.25 can also be done with big journals but is a very tight fit, alot of grinding on rods and more yet on cam. The small(2.75") journals are just not worth the thought of breakage or the minimal gain in H.P. 9" would be the way to go, and then you can put one heck of a bore behind it also. 9.5" with a 2.75" journal is a death wish. You will be so paranoid about lugging it down. Next, you'll probably ask who is a reliable place to stroke it? They're all fairly good. ALL have had them break, don't let them tell you they haven't. Merfeld, Schoolers, TNT, others also. Good luck.

It'll hold for a little while, depending how hard you pull it or abuse it. If you run a low enough gear that enables you to usually spin out, but if you are going to lug it down to the last pop or run a high gear on a hard track alot, time is limited. It needs the strength of a 3" pin. As in most things, thicker is better. Not saying it won't work, just if you're going to spend the money and go through all of the work, it's just more gratifying if it lasts longer.
